What it is

Authorised push payment fraud happens when you are deceived into making a bank transfer to a fraudster. Because you authorised the payment, the protections are different from card fraud. Speed matters: the sooner your bank is told, the more chance the receiving bank can freeze what remains.

How to protect yourself

  • Never move money to a 'safe' account, however urgent the caller sounds.
  • End unexpected calls and phone your bank back on the number on your card.
  • Verify any change of payment details by calling the organisation on a known number.
  • Report it to your bank immediately; then report it to Action Fraud.
