What it is

Most investment fraud starts with an advert or comparison page offering a fixed, above-market return. The caller builds credibility with stolen logos, fake dashboards and reference numbers, then asks for larger payments and fees to release money that does not exist.

How to protect yourself

  • Be suspicious of any fixed return well above the best savings rate currently available.
  • Check the firm on the FCA Warning List and the Financial Services Register before paying anything.
  • Be wary of follow-up calls asking for a fee to release your own balance.
  • Use the FCA's ScamSmart warning list and never rely on a single website or caller.
